Dr. Laura M. Riss, Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Riss earned her BA in Psychology from Purdue University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was initiated into a number of honor societies; m
ost noteworthy is Phi Beta Kappa. She received her MS in Psychology at New York University and went on to receive her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Riss completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Georgia Counseling and Psychiatric Services before going on to private practice.
Her training and clinical focus include working with survivors of abuse/trauma, individuals dealing with symptoms of mood disorders (including depression), anxiety, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, developmental concerns particularly related to the college student population, diversity and gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues. Dr. Riss has been trained under Safe Space and works with adolescents and adults. She has been trained by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis to provide basic level of hypnosis as an aid in psychotherapy.
Dr. Riss is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Athens Area Psychological Association, the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, and the Trauma Study Group of Athens.
